The Dress Drive took place this past weekend. Sadly, I wasn't able to attend the event due to basketball Regionals. The event went really well. We have raised over $6,000 from donations. It really was a great turn out for the event. We worked hard for the past couple of months and it really paid off. I have really been blessed to meet with such a great group of women and to help with such a life-changing event. I wish I could have been at the actual event, because I was looking forward to being a personal shopper. It was definitely an event that I won't ever forget, and I will always remember to never take those things in life for granted.

We are less than a month away from the Dress Drive. We have spent a lot of time finalizing details for the event. We had a meeting last week with Mrs. Pratt and Mrs. Taylor about finding volunteers for the event and the apparel that is needed to be worn during the event. We are going for more of a classy and sleek look for the workers, so we can give a nice and formal feel for the event for the girls/woman who are partaking in it.
Within the past couple of weeks, we have accepted a lot of generous donations from prom/bridal stores. We have two rooms that are full of dresses. We are currently trying to pull dresses out of boxes and get them separated by size. We have the date set for February 10th, 2017 to hold our dress drive at Doe Creek Middle School. We will be accepting dress donations up until the date of the event. All the dresses will be aligned down the hallways of the middle school, and we will be running around and helping all the men and women who are attending our event.
Recently, I have been involved in another project with fellow classmates and we are working on the dress drive that has been held at Doe Creek Middle School the past couple of years. We have been reaching out to local bridal stores and are seeking donations of dresses that we can resell for a lower and more affordable price. The dress drive will take place in February of 2018, and we will be setting up and working this event. I really am excited for this project and I can see it working out really well.
Last week, we met with the IPS Graduation Academy to look into working with girls and giving them a great prom experience. We proposed a peer-on-peer mentoring for all of us to get the feel for each other's daily lives. We still have to reach back out and confirm with the Academy what our plans are, but I think this project overall is going to be very successful and really break the cultural boundaries. |
